Kids in Need of Rockwall County, Inc. has the following programs helping children:

The Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room exists as an emergency item resource center for children and adults who have been removed from their homes due to abuse/neglect or suspected abuse/neglect and are being served by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.  The Rainbow Room is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so that the caseworkers can "shop" for items as needs arise.  The emphasis is on new items, generally clothing, hygiene, toys, medical supplies, linens, baby equipment and food.  The Rainbow Room also provides school supplies, household items, birthday gifts, spring baskets, Christmas stockings and Christmas gifts.  All of the items in the room are donated by the loving people of the community and 100% of all donations go to the children and adults.  The goal of the Rainbow Room is to make the caseworkers' job a little easier while providing for the needs of the children and adults under guardianship.

Other Programs

Birthday Gifts:  A gift card is given to each child under guardianship and their caseworker or foster parent takes them shopping for their birthday.

Klothes for Kids:  Twice a year, spring and fall, a gift card for clothes and shoes is given to each child to help supplement their stipend from the State.  In July of 2004, 32 children received clothes through this program.

Spring Baskets:  During the Easter holiday every child and adult receives a basket full of "goodies".  Each basket is age appropriate, diet specific and stuffed full of fun items by wonderful volunteers and delivered by the caseworker.

Life Books:  Each child that comes into custody is given a book that they can fill out with the help of their caseworker or foster parent.  This is a scrapbook of memories so that there are no "lost years" in the child's life.

Backpacks & School Supplies:  At the beginning of each school year each child is given a brand new backpack stuffed full of grade appropriate school supplies.  If the child wants to use their backpack from the previous year, they still receive the school supplies.

Special Request Needs:  This project is used just as it states, "Special Needs."  For instance, a request for assistance might be received to pay a past-due electric bill so that the services will not be terminated.  This program has also provided beds for children who did not have them, baby seats, and even a special skatebord for a handicapped child to allow him more mobility.

Christmas Stockings & Gifts:  Every Christmas stockings and gifts are provided for all the children and adults in custody at that time.  Kids in Need of Rockwall County is able to make this a really special time for each child and adult through the generosity of sponsors throughout the community.  Each gift is individually wrapped and the caseworkers deliver them so that they can be opened on Christmas day.

Special Events

Christmas Project:  Sponsorship of each child and adult will be available some time in early November 2004.  Volunteers are needed to help on "wrap day" when all the gifts are wrapped.  "Wrap Day" is scheduled for December 11th, 2004 from 9:00 to noon, and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Board Meetings:  Board Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month at 9:00 a.m. in the CPS office conference room at 1131 Yellow Jacket Lane, Rockwall, TX.
